There's a new set of lifegaurds in red suits taking over Europe, only this time it's rescue dogs jumping out of helicopters and off speeding boats to save people. These dogs wear their red suits and carry a float that humans can grab onto and ride back on. The most common breeds used are Newfoundlands, Laboradors, and Golden Retrievers - all water loving retrievers - but any breed can be trained and used as long as the dog is over 66 lbs.
Although these dogs work with a certified human counterpart, it can take up to three years to get these dogs through the necessary certifications. In spite of this lengthy training program there are already 300 dogs that have been certified.
