A recently published study found that dogs do in fact respond to someone crying, but they are unable to definitively say that the dogs truly feel or understand the emotions of the upset human. The study tested whether a dog was more likely to go up to someone talking, humming, or crying and found that the dogs would approach the crying person more.  They would then respond to the crying person with submissive behaviors, which leads us dog lovers to believe that they are trying to comfort us.  The people running the study say that it isn't that easy though, that the dogs could just be more curious about someone crying verses humming or talking.  Check out this article for a more detailed account and let us know what you think.
